Puppy & Kitten Care in Staten Island, NY
As soon as your new puppy or kitten has been introduced into their new home, you need to schedule their first visit with us. We’ll conduct a full nose-to-tail examination, discuss their diet, exercise requirements, house training, and spaying/neutering. Be sure to bring in a fecal sample so we can check for worms. Most puppies and kittens are born with some type of intestinal parasite, so don’t be alarmed if you see something unusual in your pet’s stool.
At 6-8 weeks old, puppies and kittens can get started on their distemper boosters. We typically do a series, in which your pet will be vaccinated for distemper every 3-4 weeks until they’re 12-16 weeks old. The distemper series is essential for building up your puppy or kitten’s immunity. Rabies is given between 16 and 18 weeks.
